THE GREAT AMERICAN COTTAGE

Pull up a rocking chair by the fireplace. A cat on the lap is always comforting a good book and a cup of tea. This is the American Dream of today. The opulence of the 1980's has receded. Back to basics is back. The Laurel Drive cottages exemplifies this desire for home and hearth.

When decorating a cottage as with any home, a theme must be created. Visualize a cottage in the woods you may have gone to as a child. Picture it with hard wood floors, or painted pine floors with rag rugs. Over stuffed furniture, Adirondack rocking chairs, and calico curtains. This always gave a nurturing and warm feeling.

This is how we bring The Great American Cottage up to date. The carpeting is a neutral, variegated flecked, heavy cabled wall to wall. Sofa, overstuffed perhaps with wood trim in plaid flannel or perhaps leather. To retain the integrity of the old, lets keep that Adirondack rocker. Windows can now be covered with 2" wood blinds with homespun gathered valances. Dining table is a wonderful sturdy oak where friends can sit around with a hot cup of coffee. The 1990's always must include a media cent er (T.V. etc.). It is amazing what charming cabinets are available in this new lodge look. Why not try a white washed cabinet with painted ivy leaves garnishing the corners?

Lets not leave out the bedroom. Lots of cotton homespun lace can adorn the windows. With the same lace as a bed spread. A cute wooden floor lamp with a betasselled lampshade could be fun next to the corner easy chair. Try a wrought iron bed and antique oak bedroom set or pick from the large selection of lodge inspired furniture. Let me help you enhance your cottage homes to its fullest extent.
